A Note on This Beer
Hoppy Hug: It’s a New Zealand trifecta of Taiheke, Motueka, and Vic Secret Hops! Flavor Embrace: Whoa, silky citrus! Fresh-cut grapefruit flavors mingle with swirls of orange creamsicle notes. Cuddly Mouthfeel: There’s no lactose here, but the brew is so silky and soft, it feels like there is.
If you’re blinking and wondering what in the world Taiheke Hops are, that’s because the Kiwi variety underwent a big name change just a few years ago.
Taiheke used to be known as NZ Cascade, since they were essentially American Cascade Hops grown abroad. But, several generations of environmental differences caused them to diverge and take on more grapefruit citrus characteristics. Boom! Nature at work!
With Air Hugs IPA, the team at HopFly Brewing shows off the distinctive flavors that make Taiheke and other NZ varieties so coveted among brewers today. Though you’ll have to really focus if you want it to last – that pillowy mouthfeel goes down all too easy!
Ready to get in on this tour of New Zealand’s hop country? Better move fast — we only have 20 cases, and HopFly’s brews rarely stray beyond select North Carolina bottleshops!
*We’re super stoked for HopFly to make their Tavour debut – The Denver Post declared their IPAs a ‘Must Try’ at the 2019 Great American Beer Festival!
