A Note on This Beer
Wild Leap didn’t snag the top spot as USA Today’s Best New Brewery in America in 2019 by playing it safe.
No siree! They’re all about pushing brew boundaries. Today’s Alpha Abstraction Vol. 11 is being billed as the “most experimental” addition to their popular signature series yet.
Which figures — it features Experimental Hop HBC 472!
If you’re scratching your head and wondering what the dickens this experimental hop is, that’s because it’s not commonly found!
This wild hop variety is a sister of Sabro and is a result of open pollination in the lush Yakima Valley. Boasting huge aromas of surprising whiskey, oak, and coconut among a plethora of fruit flavors, HBC 472 is sought out by breweries like Wild Leap looking to cross into new flavor frontiers.
And it tastes like they found a winner! As Chief Brewer Chris Elliott says, “The (HBC 472) combination was amazing. We immediately knew we had Vol. 11!”
The hops give today’s brew alluring berry, white grape, and subtle oaked bourbon scents. Take a sip, and fresh-cut tropical fruit and orange citrus splash across the tongue, giving way to refined coconut-vanilla sweetness on the finish — flavorful complexity that’s earned the brew a 4.27 UT score!
Now, before you go flaunting your experimental hop knowledge around your friends, make sure you stock up on plenty of Vol. 11 cans first. Tavour’s the only way to get them outside of Georgia!
