A Note on This Beer
In Greek mythology, Antaeus was the son of Gaea (the personification of the Earth) and Poseidon, the god of the sea.
It made me wonder — how does a guy charm a planet? Maybe Poseidon swam to shore, playfully tickled the grass, and said, “Hey Gaea, you’re looking especially green today.”
Regardless of how THAT happened, one thing’s easy to see — today’s Anteus Sour Ale is also the child of a match made in heaven. Only this time, it’s between local Colorado blueberries and succulent prickly pears.
The Wild Ale experts at Black Project took a Golden Sour Wheat Ale and added copious amounts of blueberries and prickly pears, for a tart, luscious brew that leaves just a hint of funk. It pours a gorgeous shade of fruit-punch pink, with notes of blueberries on the nose and a crisp, effervescent mouthfeel. Flavors of juicy pears follow the berries, and the finish is clean and bright.
I’m not sure if I have the guts to try to beguile Mother Earth. But, with a little liquid courage from this berrylicious Sour, I suppose anything could be possible.
*Black Project’s Wild & Sour Ales have earned them multiple medals from GABF!
