There’s a German-owned deli near my dad’s house, and he’s got the menu memorized. 

Every year for his birthday, he requests a slice of their decadent, multi-layer Black Forest Cherry Cake (or, as the elderly Bavarian lady behind the counter calls it — “Schwarzwalder Kirschkuchen”). 

So, when I learned that the award-winning brewers at 903 had released a barrel-aged version of their delicious Double Chocolate Cherry Stout, I knew EXACTLY what my dad was getting for his birthday this year!

903 crafted this boozy dessert with insane amounts of chocolate and wild cherries, then aged it for 13 months in Ironroot Republic whiskey barrels. It’s thick-as-frosting body wraps my tongue in flavors so decadent, it’s hard to believe I’m not eating actual cake.

Once my dad gets a taste of this satisfying pour, he won’t even need to grab a slice from the German deli. When he starts to feel that ridiculously huge 15% ABV, there’s no telling what exciting shenanigans his birthday bash could get up to!

I almost feel bad for the deli lady, because she won’t get to see our eager little faces this year. Then again, I think I’ll spread the love and grab a can for her, too!
