About This Beer

My wife likes to joke that I’d straight up drink Nutella if I could. Well, thanks to Cycle Brewing’s 4.31 UT-rated Imperial Stout, now I can! To make it, they added copious amounts of hazelnuts and cocoa nibs sourced from Pinellas Chocolate Company and then aged for a year in bourbon barrels.

Tasting Notes

Dark malty notes collide with decadent chocolate and toasted nuts. Subtle hints of top-shelf bourbon and oak make themselves known on the silky-smooth finish.

Strong hazelnut nose. Taste: hazelnut dominates with some fudge and a coffee-like acidity that lingers at the finish. Don’t taste any barrel at all. Reminds me of a slightly lesser version of Buxton’s “Yellow Belly”.

I liked the hazelnut, though it was strong. My bottle was boozy hotter than I’d anticipated, and not as much on the barrel. Overall this is fine, sweet dessert.

One bottle got me tipsy, and I’m a big guy. Very boozy and very chocolatey. Nutella in a bottle is apt but there’s also a bit of coffee bitterness in there that meshes well. Would definitely drink again.

Very dark and boozy. Has definite cocoa nib roasty undertones. Hazelnut is there too but very faint. Not sure if the age of the bottle affected the flavor.
