About This Beer
“Ohhhhh, some Saisons, they’re dark in tone,
Heave away, heave away!
They’re hops and spice right to the bone,
We are bound for the barrel!”
Yarr! We’re off on a voyage of discovery, charting a course from Belgium to the South Seas on the vessel Midnight Marauder.
This ship, she’s rigged with New Zealand Hops and whiskey barrel aged for the voyage ahead.
Tasting Notes
Like many a Belgian Saison, the phenolic perfume of the spice islands’ cinnamon and clove can be scented before you even step ashore. Each swig is bright and bubbling, balancing a refreshing tang with a light touch of cocoa and brisk herbal bitterness.
This unique treasure packs a boozy bite for a wild night, and finishes dry. Just be sure not to land yourself in the brig!

If an old school American (specifically west coast) barley wine had a bastard child with a black IPA, this would be it. Though, most of the flavor profile plays third string to the hops. Not much going on here, especially nothing Belgian or saison. Not too bad, but not something I would ever seek out. Boozy is a plus.

Quite delicious, a few sour notes on smooth dark saison gives a feel of a stout, but lighter.

Aroma: Funky Chocolate with traces of wood.
Taste: Bready spice with a hint of funk mixed with a chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, fruity whisky notes. Interesting flavor combination. A creative and innovative beer

16oz can from Tavour. First sip...wow! Dark brown pour with a fluffy beige head. Boozy, sweet aroma, chocolate, orange. Taste is sweet and full, warm and boozy, fruity, pit fruit, cherries. And chocolate, which seems like it shouldn't fit, but it does. Rich, luscious and decadent.

5/25/22 Loved it! Belgian phenyls and dark candi sugar soaked in whiskey with a splash of roasty bitterness to balance it out. Drinks like a weizenbock with ample caramel and vanilla notes. One of the more interesting beers I’ve tried in a bit.

Pours dark black opaque with a nice thick persistent foam. Smells like oak barrels and sweet malts. Thick, creamy feel. A little bitter, oaky, smoky taste.
