A Note on This Beer

The craft experts at The Beer Connoisseur try a lot of brews from all over the world.

According to this group of trained Cicerones and professional beer reviewers, “there is one brewery that stands head and shoulders above the rest. That brewery is pFriem Family Brewers of Hood River, Oregon – a brewery that is thoroughly deserving of the title of Best Brewery in the World.”

High praise indeed! If you need proof that pFriem can even compete with the venerable old breweries of Europe, just check out today’s two-pack of beers. These brews, both inspired by classic Belgian styles, prove that the Oregon brewery really can go toe to toe with even the most revered Trappist breweries!

Here’s what you’ll have to look forward to if you manage to snag one of these limited packs:

Belgian Strong Dark Ale - 10% ABV

Belgian Strong Dark is among the Top 100 Beers of its Style on BeerAdvocate, it won Beer of the Year from Oregon’s beloved Willamette Week, AND it took Double Gold from SIP Northwest!

Even the beer geeks at PorchDrinking.com couldn’t get enough of its “notes of heavy fig and cherry dipped in maltiness,” that give way to “raisin, dry jam and semi-sweet chocolate.” It’s like a fudge-drizzled Newton with a bit of toffee on top, with no sign of that giant ABV anywhere.

Belgian Style Blonde Ale - 7.5% ABV

It should come as no surprise that this brew is also backed with a host of awards and accolades. Oregon Live named it one of the Top 50 Beers in the State, it’s got a shiny medal from the North American Beer Awards, and the pFriem fans at The Beer Connoisseur rated this one a whopping 95/100!

They called it, “refreshing yet warming. Would go perfectly with a hamburger off the grill with all the fixings!” We agree, but we’d add that the bouquet of pear, lightly spicy clove, and subtle coriander notes go well with just about anything!

At the end of the day, every craft fan gets to decide for themselves which brewery is the best in the world. The folks at Beer Connoisseur say it’s pFriem. There’s only one way to find out if you agree!

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

Banana and light caramel in aroma. Cocoa, fig, dark fruit, sweet malt, and toffee in taste.

It’s got a great lingering mouthfeel and flavor but it’s watery finish and subtle dark lagerish flavor is very subtle

Delicate but strong. Very intricate complexities of dark spices and dark fruits, with a punctuation of roast, semisweet chocolate, figs, and mild earthy hops. I want to keep sipping and analyzing every little intricacy, as I do with every pfreim beer. Wonderful.

Looking through my Tavour order but not reviewed list and saw this one...I remember having it, I remember enjoying it (pFriem + Belgian Strong... what's not to enjoy?), but I forgot to note I ever had it. Oh well.

Lovely, dark and dry... but where’s the depth? Super drinkable, tart and a bit astringent (wasn’t really expecting the latter), the figs/chocolate notes are present primarily on the nose and aftertaste. Very good, but not rising to greatness.

Very good Belgian but I’d be inclined to call it a Dubbel rather than a Quad. I didn’t get as much dark fruit, plum/prune, etc as I’d expect from a Quad. Great beer though.
