A Note on This Beer

Dessert is my favorite part of any meal. The problem is, it’s at the very end, and sometimes I get too full to really enjoy whatever treat we’re having. Luckily, 903 Brewers have come up with a solution with their Berry a la Mode.

It’s a Fruited Berliner Weisse-style Ale that really does taste like a berry pie topped with a healthy scoop of vanilla ice cream. And, I can enjoy it as a little pre-meal treat, or a light dessert.

The brewers load each sip with blueberries, blackberries, and bits of graham cracker (that acts as the beer’s “crust”). A hit of vanilla and lactose make it a creamy delight.

The crew over at 903 are experts at creating dessert-like beers that would please any sugar fiend’s sweet tooth. Eater even named them the #1 Essential Dallas Brewery!

As I said, I take dessert seriously, and missing out on it is almost painful. Fortunately, ever since I had a can of Berry a la Mode, this dilemma is no longer a problem. Besides, it means I have an excuse for more dessert!

Poured into a pint glass. Look: Deep berry red color, thick, little to no head. Smell: Berry (blackberry and blueberry for sure), vanilla Taste: Berry on the front (sour), then berry in the middle, followed by graham and notes of vanilla. You really have to reach for the graham (like chew on it for about five seconds and the graham cracker/vanilla hits on in the backend of your nose)... I know, weird right? No hop notes or bitterness at all. It is truly a berliner weisse. Feel: THICK and almost chewy slushy. We like fruit beers but this was slushy fruit with what I think was some beer. This was by far the most fruit puree we have ever had in a beer. Incredible if you like the slushy movement in beer.

Love it. If you like sours slushy then this is a must taste. Smell is phenomenal and you definitely taste the berries and vanilla. Just a great beer.

Phenomenal Brew! Once the fruit can mix properly with the Beer Base, it tastes almost like drinking an Acai Smoothie, but with a Pie Aftertaste!

It tastes like drinking pie. Pouring it was a little off putting, but one taste and I was sold. I wouldn’t say it’s really a sour. More like a dessert beer.

After I opened the can I read the description where it says ‘turn upside down to redistribute settled fruit’ but it was still an amazing beer! Tastes exactly like a blueberry pie and I absolutely loved it!
