A Note on This Beer

The heavy metalheads at Virginia’s Adroit Theory are obsessed with all things dark. Nowhere does this materialize more than in their BLVCK Celebration Imperial Porter!

Those nanobrewers condition this chocolatey Ghost 944 edition on blackstrap maple syrup and black lava salt for a richly dry, roasty experience unlike any dark brew you’ll find at your local grocery store.

Every sip is luxuriously complex, and if I didn’t know about the sweet and savory additions, I’d say Adroit managed to harness some sort of secret black brewing magic to craft this decadence.

Heck, if I had to compare the brew to flavors found here on Earth, I’d say BLVCK Celebration tastes like a dark chocolate molten lava cake drizzled in salted caramel!

The obsidian pour rocks a 9.99% ABV too, with each sip lulling the senses into nighttime relaxation. If there’s a brew to warm up a cold, dark winter evening, it’s this beast.

*PorchDrinking.com named Adroit’s dark beers a “Must Try” at the 2019 Great American Beer Festival, and they weren’t even competing!

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

Smokey flavor with a hint of bacon Not the most smooth as it had a slight rubbing alcohol flavour

Way too malty for me. Gave me an instant headache. I will add, however, that pouring it over ice cream remedied all of that.

Excellent Imperial Porter. Enjoyed at 56F or a little warmer brought out the Black Salt in a nice way that made it a good sipper. I needed a super dark beer for this artic winter and this was perfect!

Sweet rich roasty malt with dark chocolate and light maple/graham cracker notes balanced by mild salinity - lovely high gravity sipper

Perfect orientation toward dark and dry, with enough body to carry those profiles. An easy, no-brainer repeat purchase. Kicking myself for not ordering more

Loved this one, if for nothing else than it added a tinge of saltiness to a sweet syrupy base. Nose was sugary and complex.

My palette has this as salty more than sweet, I love chocolate the darker the better. However I get more salt than anything else. I tried a cracker to rinse my palette but that didn't work. Hopefully it will get better by the second can if not it will be going down the drain.

Ordered from Tavour and chilled in the fridge for a couple weeks. Poured relatively hard into an imperial pint glass. Look: dark back with a thin tan head and a nice tan lacing down the glass. Smell: smells like a mix between a Baltic porter and a sweet stout. Light notes of black strap molasses, some roast and light pine. Taste: taste follows the smell, but the black strap molasses is up front and in the nose, following dark notes of dark chocolate, heavy bitter roast and a trailing end of bitter pine (but light). The maple is so light that I am not sure we really get the difference between molasses and maple. Feel: medium body beer with heavy carbonation, but smooth finish. We lived in Virginia for a couple years before moving to the West Coast. We ordered this one for two reasons, it is from Adroit (love this place) and it said maple. For Bren, if you say maple, it better be maple. So I think she was a little disappointed with this one, but overall it is a nice, sweet imperial porter that hides the almost 10% ABV. This beer borders sweet stout for those that love the sweet toasty stouts. Cheers everyone!

Not as thick or creamy as other stouts/porters. More medium bodied. Crisp cold brew flavors, with a touch of salty aftertaste.

You reorganize the garage, you get to celebrate. Love the long chocolate finish, heady coffee nose, and smooth booziness.

I wish there was more maple to detect. The salinity saves it from the bitterness. Big malty boozy body.

Good smokiness and stood up to hickory smoked beef ribs. Tannins were subtle and whiskey flavor was muted.

Very roasty, definitely get a hint of the salt which adds a nice and interesting flavor, but im not getting much maple. Still a fantastic porter without it though.

Didn’t get much of the maple or molasses, but it’s a nice dry, roasty, somewhat hoppy porter, and more drinkable than the ~10% abv would suggest.

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour, silky cap of beige head. Smoky, roasty aroma, woody. Taste introduces light maple notes, more roast, light chocolate and coffee flavors. Hint of warmth, lingering bitterness. Smooth, rich, full.

Absolutely amazing. I’m not a huge fan of darker beers usually, but this ended up being a big exception to that. Would love to get more if I catch it out anywhere!

This is a great porter! Not too sweet. The maple was lost, but that’s not all bad! I enjoyed the depth and the slightly hoppy finish.

Smells almost like a stout. A very bitter but discernibly intense Porter. You can get the black salt flavors initially, but more of the black maple as it warms up. The maple lends a very subtle, but rich sweetness that doesn’t detract from the style. This is a very intriguing beer.

Tastes more like a solid RIS than an adjunct stout. Adjuncts are either subtle or create a more RiS-like palate.
