A Note on This Beer
When the folks at North Carolina’s Haw River first told us the story of today’s 4.26 UT-rated Oak Aged Sour, we thought they were screwing with us.
See, they crafted it for an event hosted by a dozen American brewers whose sole purpose was to poke fun at Cantillon’s “Zwanze Day,” an annual celebration of their famed Belgian Lambic.
Each brewery had to create their own version of a tart, oak-aged, cherry-soaked brew to rival Cantillon’s. Oh, and each one had to pay tribute to the late, great, American hero, Patrick Swayze.
Why? Because according to the brewers, “Swayze” sounds like “Zwanze.” I swear, I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.
But that’s how today’s Bodhi Loves Chachi was born!
To make it, Haw River aged their house Golden Sour Ale for two years in oak barrels with tart Montmorency cherries, sweet Madagascar vanilla, and whole cinnamon bark.
It’s so overflowing with Point Break-sized waves of jammy, funky, fruity goodness, you might just find yourself smacking your lips and singing “I’ve had the time of my life… and I owe it all to Haw!”
But you have to act fast if you wanna snag it. Because beers from this family-run brewery rarely escape their small town of Saxapahaw, let alone the state.
And our tiny, itty bitty stash of less than 300 bottles are some of the last in existence and the brewers tell us it’ll be at least one whole year before this cherry-laced treat comes back.
