About This Beer
When Fremont released Brew 5000 on April 1st, 2021, it sold out online in less than 5 minutes. Craft fans who didn’t jump on it quickly enough actually took to the brewery’s social media to ask if there really was a beer release, or if it was just an April Fool’s prank.
But, trust us — this brew is no joke. The Fremont crew created this enviable English Barleywine to celebrate their 5,000th batch of beer, so naturally, they pulled out all the stops.
Tasting Notes
Each sip courses with deep flavors of brown sugar, candied date, and toffee. Notes of raisin and plum appear next, followed quickly by a warming flood of caramelly whiskey and oaky vanilla from a full 16 months in Bourbon barrels.

A little less barrel than Brew 4K and a little less sweet then Brew 3K, but as always, this series is a tasty treat.

Wow this has gotta be one of the best barley wines I’ve tasted. That being said, I haven’t had THAT many barley wines, but the ones I’ve had have always been top tier. I expect a thick boozy beer and this is exactly what I got from the Fremont 5K. It’s got that expected barley wine boozey nose, with a nice thick brown sugary English toffee sweetness that comes across to ease all your worries. I really enjoyed this one, a nice rich carmel thickness that one wouldn’t expect from any old average Barley Wine. The boozyness is a creeper and Fremont’s Brew 5K is conformed a sipper — a fancy one at that; like a sit by the fire with a nice tobacco pipe in a velvet jacket and a Irish setter at your feet, kind of sipper. If u’ve made it this far in my review, you’re probably sitting there with a cold 5K in front of you debating if you should crack that pretty green wax seal or cellar it — crack it! You bought two, right?
