A Note on This Beer
Spalt is one of the world’s oldest hop varieties, dating back to 8th century Germany. Even though brewers have a lot more variety to choose from today, Spalt remains highly sought after for its enticing earth and spice character.
But, it’s not grown anywhere in the U.S. Even in Germany, the Spalt supply often can’t keep up with demand! So, when I come across a Spalt-brewed beauty like Chapman Crafted Pils, I have to jump on it right then and there!
This super drinkable, delicate Pilsner comes from the flavor masterminds at Chapman Crafted Beer. They brewed it with German Pilsner malt and hopped it with Spalt for crisp, flavors of lemongrass, toasted bread, earthy hay, and peppery floral notes. It’s quenching throughout, with a lingering, hoppy bitterness on the finish that leaves me wanting more!
Of course, if there’s anyone I trust to coax out such a flavorful expression of these hops, it’s the Chapman crew. Head brewer Brian Thorson is a self-admitted “nitpicker” on Pilsners, taking the time to brew beers like Pils carefully and true to style.
It shows, and it’s not just me noticing. Craft Beer & Brewing named Chapman a Breakout Brewery just last year!
Which is all the more reason to jump on today’s beer. A Spalt-brewed Pilsner from a highly acclaimed brewery? Yeah, it’s not going to stick around for long.
