A Note on This Beer

I’m almost certain you haven’t heard of Adventurous Brewing yet.

Everything they brew is insanely small-batch — only seven barrels-worth, to be precise. And, because their head brewer, Chris Trelstad, believes in pushing the envelope with every release, you likely won’t ever see the same Adventurous brew twice!

Today’s Cinnserely is no exception. To make it, Chris shows off his flavor fixations with over 900 lbs of specialty malt grains in the base Stout. These grains mix and mingle to give the beer powerful notes of chocolate-covered raisins and Montmorency cherries. Then, the brew crew kicks it up a notch by conditioning the beer on pounds of whole ceylon cinnamon sticks for up to 3 weeks!

Each silky sip is flush with flavors of cinnamon-kissed chocolate and ripe dark fruit. It’s like getting a mouthful of fresh-baked oatmeal raisin cookies in every gulp — and with an entirely undetectable 12% ABV, to boot.

Rather than hunting for cans of this scrumptious cinnamon Stout around Iowa, you can get your first taste of Adventurous right here. Make it snappy though — we have only 23 cases to go around, and that’s basically all that exists outside the taproom!

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

Very cinnamon forward and the 12% is hidden well. Smooth and delicious.

This is an ok stout. Thin with muted cinnamon.

I love ceylon cinnamon, but was disappointed with this one. Subtle cinnamon, which can play to ceylon's complexity, but the rest of the beer goes in a totally different direction. Rather than going sweet and boozy, it's a much drier and roasty-ier stout which doesn't jive with the ABV or the cinnamon. Relatively thin and not much mouth feel, which could work for a different approach to aging, but not what I'd consider a pastry stout. Seems like aging with cinnamon was a miss on this one. I suspect booze or fortified wine barrel aging would have played much better to the base beers strengths.

For touting cinnamon, a bit muted. Boozy, but not complex.

The Quad Cities are putting out some good beers. This is a solid Stout which could be a little bit thicker seeing as it's an Imperial. A decent amount of cinnamon to let you know that it's there but not enough to overwhelm your palate.

Nailed this one. The Cinnamon is up-front but not overwhelming.

This was very strong and I didn't get a lot of cinnamon flavor. I cracked it open next to a warm fire hoping for a nice warm winter flavor. Unfortunately, for me, it fell short.

Tastes alcohol heavy and lacking cinnamon or pastry flavors.

A nice, well balanced stout -- not particularly sweet -- with a bit of cinnamon aftertaste.

Tastes thin and barely any detectible cinnamon. Disappointing.

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour with a spotty head. Aroma and taste are dominated by the cinnamon, savory, almost spicy. Minor chocolate notes, dry. Cinnamon stays on the palate.

Almost spicy I get the cinnamon notes with fig and raisin.

The cinnamon is not over done, which allowed the raisin notes to shine, which were really apparent on nose. The ABV does sneak up on you. Earned major points for being unique.

Good flavors, could have been smoother, should have cellared instead of drinking immediately
