A Note on This Beer

Today’s Coast West Double IPA might just represent the future of hoppy beer.

This stuff has all the pithy grapefruit, bold pine, and earthy resin of the West Coast-style IPAs that defined the craft scene of the 2010s. But, it’s all wrapped in the super fluffy mouthfeel of a new-school New England juicebomb!

Impossible, you say? That’s what I thought, too! But, every sip of this citrusy 10% ABV hopbomb proves me wrong. Lucky early tasters are just as impressed as I am!

  • “WOW! This is off the chain! Smooth like buttah!” @Philip B.
  • “Another great DIPA from Wild Leap.” @Ed
  • “Slightly bitter and still so smooth? You’ve gato be kitten me!” @Damon D.

Damon is right — much like his completely unnecessary cat puns, this beer makes no sense! But, it definitely cements Wild Leap’s status as one of the craft scene’s most exciting up-and-coming breweries. Even USA Today named them the Best New Brewery in the Country last year.

I honestly think this ‘soft yet resinous’ style may be the next evolution of the American IPA. In a year or two, you might be able to find a brew like this in your city! But until then, the innovators at Wild Leap have this one all to themselves.

USA Today named Wild Leap the Best New Brewery of 2019!

Alcohol really comes out in this west coast style IPA, not to say it tastes bad.

It's a fine double IPA but if they were trying to truly mimic West Coast style that didn't quite hit home.

Hops mask the ABV nicely, one of the better doubles I’ve had lately.

Floral and honey aromas followed by honey and piney taste. 10% ABV gives no burn making for a sneaking crushable beer. Stupendous!

Definitely get a sweet nose and sweet initial hit. Then the hops hit. I’m digging this brewery. Little bit of a burn on the end.

12oz can from Tavour. Medium golden, hazy pour, skimpy head. Woody, hoppy aroma, pine. Taste is hop forward, classic old school IPA hop bill, tempered by a little fruity citrus.

This beer is delicious, the high abv makes it malty but is backed up with deep hop flavors. Sweet only from the abv but a good round high test IPA. Seems like hops were all added In the boil because there is only slight hop aroma mostly a pleasant sweet malty smell. A+

One of my favorite breweries on Tavour. With a 10% ABV, it’s a very smooth IPA. Easy to drink without the hoppiness you’d expect from a high ABV IPA.

8/17/20 that’s one hell of a DIPA! Drinks way more like a triple as the tell tale syrupy 10% is more than apparent. Pretty damn tasty, and loaded with citrus and pine, finishing with a slight bitterness. Dig it, but it’s no Double.

Soft, mellow, hoppy aroma with hints of tree sap & grapefruit. Almost savory on the palate with tons of bitterness yet also a velvety smooth mouthfeel. Not nearly as bright as the aroma would suggest. Lingering, bitter, sticky finish.

After reading reviews, I agree with the grapefruit taste, but then I'm left w the rubbing alcohol flavor on the back end after 1st sip. Yes, it's 10%, but it tastes more like barley wine than IPA. After giving the can an audience all the way down. I'm much more relaxed with the flavor and glad I'm not writing on first sip alone. A quality IPA, but could use more resin aftertaste.

Boozy Malt bomb that tastes like an ipa from 15 years ago. So if you're into nostalgia this one is for you. My sink loved it me not so much.
