A Note on This Beer

DDH Local 755 is undoubtedly one of the most beloved beers in Minnesota.

City Pages ranked it as one of the Top 20 Beers in the State of any style, and it’s the beer Buzzfeed called out when they named BlackStack a Must Visit Brewery in the Twin Cities!

The last version we were able to score earned an impressive 4.23 on Tavour!

And, today’s version is something special — the brewers made it with a brand new hop that you may not have tried before! Meet DDH 755: Talus.

If you’ve never heard of Talus Hops, don’t sweat it — until a few months ago, these softly floral, brightly citrusy cones were called Experimental HBC 692. Only a handful of breweries have used it so far!!

To make this limited release, the BlackStack crew adds a massive dry-hopping with Talus, on top of an already generous double dry-hopping of Amarillo, Citra, and Azacca.

The bold new hop variety adds towering aromas of pink grapefruit and hints of rose, surrounded by a wreath of resinous pine. It plays beautifully with notes of tangy tangerine from the Citra Hops, and balances the sweet, tropical mango from the Azacca Hops.

Lucky Minnesota locals have already rated this new brew an eye-catching 4.36 on UT!

When it comes to American craft, there’s always something new to try. And, let’s be honest — it’s fun to be first! That way, when your buddies say, “Hey, have you heard about the new Talus Hop?” You can reply “Of course! Want to try some?”

Nice hazy appearance and lovely light straw color. I dig the Talus hops-so smooth and grassy. I definitely get some grapefruit too.

BlackStack is quickly rising to the top of my list. Brilliant DDH, melon abound with silky hops and rind on the finish. Love it.

It’s like the perfect mix of IPA and Imperial IPA. Blackstack always makes a great IPA.

Black stack makes the best IPA’s and talus is becoming a favorite hop. This one hit the spot. Bright citrus flavor profile.

Very welcoming light hazy color. You would think it was pineapple juice. Extremely smooth for a DIPA and exactly what I would like to have in a NEIPA. So happy to be part of the few to taste the rare Talus hops. Every sip has consistently stayed the same.

4.05/5 look: 4.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4 Poured from a 16 ounce can into an IPA glass. Look- Sudsy white head, medium haziness, straw, average head retention, below average lacing. Smell- Grassy, floral, pine resin, overall weak aromatics. Taste- Pineapple, tangerine, pine resin, earthy, slightly mild flavor. Feel- Between thin and medium body, low bitterness, soft, creamy, clean finish, gentle carbonation. Overall- Nice flavor and balance, just not as vibrant as I had expected. Also, the can states “DDH DIPA”, but this is the first 6.8% DIPA I have ever seen.
