About This Beer

The original Dreamyard New England IPA is THE BEER that put Modist Brewing on the map. It snagged Best Hazy IPA at the Minnesota Brewers Cup and helped earn its makers the prestigious title of Most Innovative Brewery.

Still unsatisfied, they created an even juicier, doubled-up version of that show-stopping brew: DDH Double Dreamyard.

To make it, the brewers took the same award-winning recipe and went berserk: extra oats, extra wheat, extra everything. They also hopped and double dry hopped it with extra Citra and Sultana — and as a bonus — extra-potent Citra Cryo!

Tasting Notes

This brew is a hoppy hurricane to reckon with. Amid the torrential downpour of ultra-smooth, pillowy haze, a whirlwind force of tropical pineapple sweetness covers the palate before fading into a pleasant, piney bitterness. After each sip, an orange-peel zestiness lingers, further exemplifying the flavorful power in every can!

These guys seem to hit it out of the park with every brew they have. Just have to find a way to get more!

The most I drank this, the more I got this weird aftertaste that was not pleasant. The 1st sip was great and it went downhill.

Sawdust made from flower petals; The finish is crisp and dirty, like the studio floor after an energetic painting session; The can is made to be grasped by soiled hands, caked with grase from bike work, or soot, or soil from the garden; Splotched. This sitch is wet, then it cracks like cosmic grapefruit, bursting bitter chewy lightning bolts spitting and zigzagging out at odd angles; It makes you smack your lips, pucker up and make that singlular "smooch" sound like your tongue is Velcro, torn from the roof of your mouth; It's aggressively funky, hazy like a skunk crossed with a billy goat chowing down on old cans and newspaper, like the parents in Gregory the Terrible Eater by Mitchell Shamat. "How about a nice box, a piece of rug, and a bottle cap?" There's absolutely nothing passive here. The flavor is a call to action: Get up, go, get out there and dooo something!! Hike a mountain, paint a fence, help your friends move their old sofa; get some grime on your hands and some sweat on your brow; grunt, and heave, and overcome that urge to stay sedentary. Live a little.

This is a fine, if not particularly noteworthy NE IPA. Mouthfeel is on point--creamy and smooth. Malt backbone is solid, nothing wrong there. Hop flavor is predominantly dank stone fruits. This could use a punch of fresh citrus flavor to help cut through some of the muddled hazy notes, but there isn't too much to complain about here. This beer is certainly on the heavier side, but it is free of weird off notes present in many hazy IPAs. Also somewhat more bitter than others in the category. Good brew.

Not fresh. Can’t be mean. From December 12/23/2020. Thats so long ago! That lovely old beer taste. I wonder what it tasted like before. Or it’s just bad after that anchorage. Or could be both ! Having again later and it’s not bad. So maybe it was bc I had it second to anchorage.

Canned 12/23/20 opened 03/07/21. I’d love to try this one fresh... it’s still drinkable but it’s grassy vs juicy.

Nose is 10/10; big, floral & hoppy. Pours opaque hazy straw, w/decent head. Smooth mouthfeel. On the palate, pine, grapefruit, tropical & subtle earthy notes. Quite complex, flavorful & robust; but still smooth & wonderfully crushable even at 8.5ABV.
