A Note on This Beer

If I listed all the accolades for these two breweries, it’d take up all the space I have to tell you about the beer. So, I’ll just say it quick:

Today’s beer is a collab between Drekker Brewing and Modist Brewing. Last year, Modist won the Most Innovative Brewery Award at the 2019 Brewers Cup and Drekker brought home gold medals from the 2020 Best of Craft Beer awards.

The two crews put their heads together to make this Fruited Sour, inspired by the infamous vacation cocktail: the Painkiller Tiki, made with rum and coconut cream, with splashes of orange and pineapple juice and a garnish of nutmeg.

Like a Pina Colada on steroids, each batch of Death Sauce sits on over 6,000 pounds of pineapple, orange, coconut, brown sugar, coffee, nutmeg, and vanilla beans!

Each sip teems with citrus notes, paired with the sweetness of caramelized sugar and vanilla. A dash of lactose gives it the creaminess of a blended cocktail with a sugar-spiced rim and a splash of orange-liqueur.

Death Sauce truly blows me away. After all, this Fruited Sour comes from two of the best breweries in the Midwest! This special collab is only available regionally, but if you’re quick, you may be able to snag a few cans right here.

Interesting to say the least. Couldn't taste much of the coffee as others stated. Definitely more on the fruity side. Coming from 2 of my most favorite breweries, figured I couldn't go wrong, but I'm stuck in the "ehh... I.. Don't know about this.. " zone with this one.

This one was wild, all kinds of flavors happening. I didn’t pick up coffee consistently and the brown sugar was very subtle (thankfully). Very good fruity Painkiller flavor. Drekker drew me in and didn’t disappoint.

Yet another beer featuring things I don’t like and managing to combine three: pineapple, coconut, and lactose. This one is in the vein of a beer that tastes like the painkiller cocktail and there’s also orange, brown sugar, coffee, nutmeg, and vanilla beans.

This is a rare poor offering from Drekker. The fruit flavors all mash together and I cannot discern anything from it. It also tasted extremely sweet and cloying. Even the best make mistakes now and then.

The taste is pretty close to a Painkiller, but there's a sometimes-present bitterness in the back that is unpleasant. It's great for the first few drinks, but after that the slight bitterness kicks in and it gets harder to drink.
