A Note on This Beer

It’s Juicy, Honey: Juicy-dank Citra Hops swim through a sweet addition of 60 lbs of real wildflower honey. When Hoppiness Hits: A tidal wave of orange juice, gushy mangoes, crisp pine, and balanced honey-sweetness envelop the palate. Mouthfeel Del Mar: Every full-bodied sip flows smoothly with satisfying sweetness.

After tireless toil, we’ve reeled in the rare and elusive Emerald Grouper!

This big-bodied brew is a serious heavyweight. Not only does it loom with a brawny 9.5% ABV, but it’s also the #15 Top Rated Imperial IPA in the World on BeerAdvocate!

Originally, Emerald Grouper was a one-off release crafted by the juice masters at Pipeworks and the sticky-icky hop lords of St. Louis at 4 Hands — it wasn’t even clear that they would ever bring it back!

Nowadays, this apex Imperial IPA makes a return to shops in Chicagoland only once a year. And every time it does, in-the-know hopheads start fishing for all the fresh cans of the Grouper!

@peter.dysart on Instagram didn’t miss a single beat with this newest batch, announcing that “I’m stocking up on what is one of Chicago’s all-time greatest Imperial IPAs. STOCKING UP.”

Normally, you’d have to cast a wide net to catch some Emerald Grouper — cans weren't sold anywhere outside of Chicago before last year. And it’s so dang limited that even if it did manage to float out to a shop in your area, you probably missed out entirely.

Today, this fresh catch of Emerald Grouper is yours for the taking!

Rated 99/100 on BeerAdvocate; 4.26 on Untappd

16 oz can from Tavour. Cloudy amber pour, small silky head. Caramel malts first in the aroma , followed closely by bitter citrus notes. Faint honey. Sweet taste, honey, caramel coupled with a sharp bite. Velvety smooth.

Slight malt flavor at the beginning. Little melon some citrus. Really good brew but I get zero honey. Honey ferments out easily

We ended up doing 4 of this one as we have had Pipeworks in the past....and we are glad we did! The subtle sweetness of the honey does not make it taste like a robust 9.5%. They just have miscalculated because this the the most drinkable 9.5% I have had. Each one was better than the last. Send me more please!
