A Note on This Beer

What’s it like to work with Gabe Fletcher at Anchorage Brewing?

“Just awesome! Seeing behind the scenes of that operation, that attention to detail. You can really understand why the beers are as good as they are.”

That’s according to Brian Hall, the homebrewer who created the recipe for today’s crazy-juicy Enigma IPA. A beer that impressed Gabe so much, he invited Brian to brew it with him at Anchorage!

It took Brian over two years of tweaking to get the recipe exactly how he wanted it — and it’s so good, Gabe only needed one sip to know he wanted to share it with the craft community. That’s high praise from someone who collabs with the likes of Tired Hands and Hill Farmstead!

We should also mention that homebrewer Brian is more than your average brewing hobbyist. He’s been creating beer recipes for 15 years, and he writes and podcasts about experimental homebrew methods for Brulosophy. The dude takes his beer very seriously!

Snag yourself a sip of Enigma and you can taste Gabe and Brian’s dedication in every drop.

Heck, you might be inspired to try a little brewing yourself! But even if you convert your garage into a brewery and install a grain silo in your yard, it will probably be a long time before you make something half as good as Enigma.

The final recipe ended up being a 50/50 split of Citra hops, and rarely seen Enigma Hops. “You get a lot of tropical fruits and citrus,” explains Brian, who developed a taste for Hazies years ago while living in Maine. “It’s a little more floral as well instead of just being a straight up fruit bomb.’”

Crack one open, and you’ll understand. The Citra Hops provide a juicy grapefruit and orange backbone, while the Enigma Hops add layers of bright pineapple, ripe mango, fragrant peach, and a slightly floral undercurrent. The body is lusciously soft from a touch of ultra-smooth Vienna Malt.

Grab a few cans of Enigma and find out what happens when a world class homebrewer and a top-rated brewery join forces. And if you find yourself inspired, maybe head down to your local homebrew shop. Your beer might not taste as good as Gabe and Brian’s, but with an Enigma in your hand, we bet you’ll have just as much fun making it.
