A Note on This Beer
The folks at Elder Pine say today’s G’Day is “by far the fruitiest, most expressive Lager we’ve ever tasted.”
Which is really saying something, because they have a history of crafting truly excellent Lagers. The beer critics at Bethesda Magazine praise the “modern twist” Elder Pine puts on traditional styles and says they’re making Maryland a craft beer haven!
Of course, it’s still tricky to travel anywhere right now, including to the region’s booming beer scene. So, I snagged a supply of G’Day just for Tavour.
Folks, you’re in for a treat. Instead of using traditional Lager hops, the brewers cranked up the heirloom German Pilsner malt base with extremely aromatic Australian Galaxy and Topaz Hops!
Each sip indeed brims with bright fruit-forward flavors, most notably lychee and fresh-cut melon. There are hints of lemonade and berry medley in there as well, and it’s beautiful. This brew is quenching and resinous without being overtly sweet or bitter, finishing crisply. If you’ve ever wanted to taste a true expression of these hops in an inherently crushable style, this is it.
And, it might be your only chance to taste it, since I should also mention that G’Day is a collaboration between Elder Pine and their buddies at Waredaca Brewing Co. They created this Lager for Waredaca’s fifth anniversary, so if you miss out now, you might just have to wait another five years.
