A Note on This Beer
After college, my friend persuaded me to go live with them in a small mountain town. It was fun, but it was seriously one of the coldest places in the entire nation — I thought my temperature gauge was broken the first time I saw -20 F.
I’ve long since moved away, but man, I could’ve stayed for decades if the local bars poured lush brews like today’s brand-new Imperial IPA from Anchorage Brewing. That Alaskan crew knows the key to escaping unpleasant weather: diving into a tropical juicebomb!
Which is why every pillowy mouthful of Get Thicker Skin teems with island fruit flavors.
Galaxy Hops bring tasty grapefruit and tangerine notes. But, the real star of the show is the brewers’ use of Riwaka Hops. This rarely-seen New Zealand delicacy adds juicy passionfruit flavors and huge fresh-cut citrus aromas. The hops even bring a little kick of earthy coconut spice on the end, making for a balmy, Caribbean finish.
Plus the brew clocks in at 8.4% ABV, spreading sunny warmth across your body in every sip!
Of course, I never would have actually found this double dry-hopped beauty back in my mountain town bars. Unless you’re on Tavour or willing to trek up to Alaska, finding a stash of Get Thicker Skin is as rare as my chances of moving back to sub-zero temperatures.
