A Note on This Beer
This time of year, one of my guiltiest pleasures is the caramel apple.
The contrast between sweet, gooey caramel and tangy Granny Smiths is to die for.
My only concern: I need a whole box of toothpicks to get all of that stickiness out of my teeth.
Wild Sour specialists at Black Project have given me new hope for these indulgent autumn flavors in their HAVOC Graf.
A Graf is a blend of Wild Cider and Wild Ale; and after the brewers add real vanilla, this otherworldly mixture tastes like a super sour version of the caramel apple notes I’ve been craving.
If you’re digging what I’m digging, maybe you’d like to join me for a little Zoom-chat bobbing for caramel apple beers?

Like drinking a sour warhead. Delicious!

Grocery store plastic bottled apple juice

The sour completely dominated any other flavor for me. It was overwhelmingly sour.

I mostly feel misled by the Tavour information. It’s a fine sour beer, if you like super sour beers, but there’s very little apple flavor and it’s certainly not like a caramel apple.

Like the Astrolabe but with tart green apple. A really nice, simple, sweet brew. Nice on a sunny autumn day.

Cider notes on the nose but not very prominent when tasting. Not picking up vanilla either. Sour base overwhelms a lot of the flavors.

Apple cider aroma, tart sour apple taste with a hint of vanilla.

I like sours so this beer is great! But I don’t taste vanilla or caramel apple. Granny Smiths, yes. Very crisp.

Pretty clean aroma of lactic acidity, lemon, apple and mineral. Taste is underwhelming. This beer is very sour and pretty one-dimensional.

Too clean. Too light for what I expected.

I wanted this to be more like cider. It wasn't. Ok apple flavor but not much else.

My first Graf tastes like a candy apple

Super tart, yet delicious! Light in the apple this batch.

Way too sour for sure. Almost has a champagne or white wine taste to it

A bit lighter than I hoped. The sour apple flavor seems to steal the attention from every other flavor. However, still very drinkable if you’re a fan of green apple or ciders

I thought wild ale meant that this was a wild ale. I was wrong.

A decent, light sour. Apple is very subtle and I wish it was stronger. Sadly, the sour dominates all other flavors.

While it wasn't my pint glass of beer, it was not bad for a sour/cider. It tasted as expected, good for what it was, not bitter, not particularly sweet, a sure sipper zinger of a sour. Would be awesome on a hot summer day. Didn't taste the vanilla or any kind of sweet caramel, but sure tasted the apple and citrus notes.

Vanilla punches through apple at start, but apple wins on the finish.
