A Note on This Beer
Last year, VinePair declared Sour IPAs were on their way to “becoming a cult favorite.”
We think they were right — today’s impressively dry-hopped, fruit-filled, and oak-conditioned Henny Colada Sour IPA has all the makings of a beloved classic!
To craft it, the GABF medalists at Gun Hill loaded the 7.5% ABV brew with toasted coconut and tangy pineapple purée for island-fresh flavors, plus a stroke of vanilla to achieve classic colada cocktail smoothness. They also gave it a strong backbone of tropical melon, zingy citrus, and juicy stone fruit flavors from doses of Sabro and Motueka Hops.
And, they didn’t stop there! The brewers finished this limited sipper with citrus rind and clove notes by conditioning it on cognac-soaked oak spirals.
This is actually the first-ever cognac Sour IPA we’ve tasted!
Even though Sour IPAs are slowly becoming more common, distinctly complex renditions like Henny Colada don’t come around often. You know what to do, craft fan.
*Eater NY named Gun Hill their #1 NYC Breakout Brewery to Try, calling out their “unusual styles” and describing them as “some of New York’s more interesting beers.”
