A Note on This Beer
Woodland Empire Ale Craft’s adventurous flavormakers set out on a daring mission: To create an IPA that could challenge the complexity of fine wine. 13 months in the barrel later, the dramatic, nectarous pineapple and funky tartness of their mission emerges with Heroes & Villains Brett IPA.
Heroes & Villains shows Woodland stretching every muscle of their brewing prestige. Harnessing barrel-aging, real fruit, Brettanomyces, and dry-hopping, this audacious brew flourishes with memorable flavors rarely tasted in any IPA:
Locally foraged white grapes are hand-pressed into the IPA base just before aging, boosting the body with sour, fruity vinous richness while boozing up to 8% ABV.
Aging in oak barrels for 13 months envelopes the base with deep oak character, infusing subtle notes of vanilla, cloves, and sharp wood spice.
Two unique Brett strains bring out the wild tropical character of pineapples, mangoes, and guavas with a hint of bitter, peppery spice, and the crisp dryness of Sauvignon Blanc.
Dry-hopping with Citra Hops invigoratesthe aroma with lively lemon and lime character, while amplifying the juiciness of the mouthfeel.
Last time we featured Heroes & Villains, Tavour members couldn’t get enough of its tropical, wild complexity. Some even said it surpasses any IPA or wine they’ve ever tasted. Barrel-aging a hoppy beer is daring to be sure, but that’s Woodland in a nutshell - a team of adventurous brewmasters eager to wake up and challenge tastebuds one beer at a time.
