A Note on This Beer
“If you could’ve seen the joy on our faces when we saw Speciation on the Tavour app!” –The Beer Travel Guide
We wish we could have! In fact, we wish we could see the grins on ALL Sour fans’ faces whenever we share a new brew from Speciation. We know how much you love this Michigan brewery — we managed to snag only 9 of their Sour Ales in 2020, and every single one scored 4+ on Tavour!
So today, we’ve got a real treat. A two-pack of fantastically flavorful, hyper-rare Sours from one of the country’s premier brewers of the style! Here’s what you’ll get:
Stop Codon has to be one of the most unique beers we’ve seen on Tavour, and that’s saying something. The brewers flavored this foeder-aged ale with orange zest, cacao nibs, tamarind fruit, and fenugreek, a type of herb often used in Indian cuisines that brings an earthy sweetness to the brew.
And, all that is after spontaneously fermenting the Amber Ale base in a coolship, and aging it in oak for a full two years!
The result is incredibly complex, with flavors of orange and lemon zest giving way to mild spicy notes that bring to mind cardamom and hints of coriander. A bit of tangy sweetness from the tamarind balances the pucker, leading into a long, lingering finish.
This is a brew that takes time to explore — every sip seems to reveal something new!
Next, there’s Hopeful Monster, an open fermented Sour Wheat Ale brewed with black currants.
This isn’t the first time Speciation has released this brew, but it is the first time we’ve managed to get our hands on any. We’re sure glad we did!
It’s tangy and tart, but still jammy and well balanced with berry-like sweetness from the currants. It’s crisp, elegant, and sips just as well alongside a candlelit dinner as it does lounging on the back porch.
If you’re anything like the fine folks at the Beer Travel Guide, you’re probably experiencing a little joy yourself right now. Just don’t wait too long to pounce — we have just 10 cases of each of these beers, and they won’t last long.
With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!
