A Note on This Beer

According to legend, the piña colada was invented by Roberto Cofresi, a 19th century pirate looking to boost morale among his crew.

After tasting today’s If You Like Mead-A-Colada, I’m guessing it worked! I know my morale skyrocketed the moment I started sipping this cocktail-inspired honey wine.

Which makes sense — if this delightful flavor combo can lift the spirits of a scurvy-ridden sea-dog, it can certainly take my mind off of my busted mower.

To make it, the crew at W A Meadwerks started with their crisp and smooth mead, then loaded it with a galleon’s worth of real pineapple, silky vanilla, and luscious coconut. It tastes like something you’d get at a beach bar, but it’s lighter, crisper, and more crushable than anything from a blender.

Dry, bitter, flavorless. No flavor notes whatsoever. Tasted like a flat cheap commercial lite beer. Got two cans. One went immediately down the drain. The other one in the trash.

Dry, tart, sour, low carbonation, pineapple comes through, some roasted coconut at the drop. This would’ve worked better sweet.

Expect a Mead, not a seltzer or sour. Unctuous fruit profile of pineapple and coconut backed by a dry malty mouth feel makes this go down smooth. Interesting spin on Mead, might not be everyone's coconut of Pina colada, but it is mine.

didn't stand out as a mead to me but I liked it. smelled kind of like pine instead of any of the flavors in the actual drink. definitely taste pineapple, not really any coconut.

I couldn’t get through this. I typically like their mead but something was off about this one. It wasn’t as sweet as expected. Sadly was disappointed.
