A Note on This Beer

In 2019, the beer critics at The Manual included Anchorage Brewing’s Darkest Hour on their list of the 5 Best Wine Barrel-Aged Beers to Drink Right Now.

And, after getting a taste of today’s Just Slip Away BA Sour Ale, it’ll come as no surprise if they make The Manual’s next list. Gabe Fletcher and his team of master brewers aged this tangy delight in French Oak Chardonnay barrels for a whopping 32 months!

Add that to an extended finishing process on tangerines, mangos, and guava, and the result is one delectable Sour Ale that bursts with juice. The ripe, plush mango comes in upfront, followed by gently piquant citrus, mingled with sweet guava. Oak spice and softly puckering white grapes whisper throughout, deepening the brew’s complexity.

With every succulent sip, it’s clear why Anchorage chose this beer’s name – it’s all too easy to Just Slip Away into this Wine Barrel-aged juicy heaven!

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

Not as flavorful as I would've hoped but still great and refreshing!

Impressively high ABV that doesn't knock out the sourness.

Super yummy, but requires a small glass since it drinks link wine.

One of the better balanced sours I’ve had in a while. Fruit did not overpower and was smooth.

Sour at first, then slowly tasted the smooth ale and can taste the citrus. Last, barely taste the fruity. One of the kind.

Barrel on the front, barrel on the back. Anchorage does it again. Fantastic beer as usual.

Great fruit elements up front. Nice tropical aromas. As it warms up, the barrel aspects become more apparent. It even has almost a Berliner Weisse thing going on on the finish. The flavors are a little too short, though. Almost crushable.

I like this funky fresh sour and I’m happy I grabbed quite a few. It is really nice with the apricot tartness and clean finish. Really refreshing!!

Sour isn’t overbearing, and the fruitiness really comes alive. It’s got a wine-like body. I’m in love with this beer.

The Chardonnay ageing lent this one a nice crispness to go with the tropical + sour components.

Not a bad beer but outside of a little tangerine there's no flavor. And no barrel either. The only other Anchorage sour I've had is Scream which was very good even though that too lacked barrel.

Fruit flavors are somewhat difficult to discern, but the well-balanced tartness and earthy funkiness more than make up for this. Fresh, bright, and effervescent.

This is definitely a sour ale versus a fruited sour. I like it and would purchase it again. However, this is not a beer you would drink multiples of.

Excellent mixed fermentation ale. The tropical fruits come through and so does the Chardonnay barrel aging. I’m glad I bought two.

Brilliantly done. Tart sour builds then falls abruptly to yield new flavors with fruits and lots of barrel
