About This Beer
You probably already know that Gabe Fletcher, founder of Anchorage Brewing, makes badass beer. But did you know he also forges blades? This epic double oaked Stout is a tribute to the man who inspired him to start forging, Hawaiian bladesmith Neil Kamimura.
To create this tribute to a renowned bladesmith, Gabe and his crew first fermented in a bold, malty Imperial Stout in oak foeders. Then they transferred the brew to Woodford Reserve Double Oaked bourbon barrels and let it rest for 11 months. To add even more whiskey caramel flavor and earthy oak nuances, they moved the beer yet again, this time into freshly emptied Willet Bourbon barrels where it slumbered for six more months.
Finally, they finished the brew on toasted coconut, Hawaiian vanilla beans, and Kona coffee grown on Neil Kamimura’s own property!
Tasting Notes
Look for fudgy flavors from the malts balanced by silky vanilla and rich coconut. You’re sure to find plenty of barrel character too, with notes of oak, toffee, and bourbon swimming throughout the sip. This beer should be as intricate, as beautiful, and as bold as one of Kamimura’s Damascus steel blades!
