A Note on This Beer

The truth: there’s no better cake than a rich, chocolate sponge doused in vanilla-cream cheese frosting.

Sure, there are probably sweet-tooths out there who disagree. But, if they got a sip of today’s ooey-gooey King Cake Pastry Stout, they’d know just how true the above statement is.

This 8% ABV sipper is like a gourmet chocolate cake, layered with tangy, homemade cream cheese frosting, and drizzled all over with warm caramel. Undertones of coffee and vanilla amp up each sip to delicious sensory overload.

With all its sweet, roasty opulence, it’s obvious that the brewers at Ingenious conditioned this chocolatey Imperial Stout base on heaps of vanilla beans, cinnamon, and cream cheese.

From one sweets-fiend to another, I recommend you load up on some extra cans, because this brew’s mesmerizing, mocha-coated aromas are so enticing it’s hard to stop indulging once you’ve already started!

*Houstonia Magazine calls Ingenious “the most adventurous brewery in the Houston area,” and credits them as major players in making the city a beer destination!

*For anyone unfamiliar with traditional King Cake, it’s a classic dessert made during Mardi Gras! It includes a “fève” (a small figurine), hidden inside. Whoever finds the figurine in their slice wins an even bigger prize!

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

We ordered this one from Tavour. Chilled for a couple days and poured into an imperial pint glass. Look: dark brown, almost black with a hard pour that gave a very small half finger sized tan head that dissipated quickly and gave a very light tan creamy lacing down the glass Smell: smells of biscuit, cinnamon and cream cheese icing (almost of a cinnamon roll or sticky bun, not the homemade kind, but the cheap one you get at a gas station that is pre packaged) Taste: taste follows the smell, sweet, cinnamon, biscuity cinnamon roll with trailing end vanilla notes that leave you with a very faint bitter, sweet cake in the nose and back palate Feel: medium to light body with a nice tickle of carbonation that sticks around, sweet but not syrupy... makes you want a little more Overall pretty good sweet stout. We have never had a king cake, but looked it up (because thats how we roll), and the taste follows pretty close. If you have ever had a grocery store cinnamon roll with white icing, this beer is for you. Cheers everyone!

The cinnamon notes were subtle, smooth flavor, and it wasn’t too sweet which I liked. I’m sure anyone with a sweet tooth for dessert beers will love it, but don’t expect anything too exciting with this one.

Lots of taste- particularly vanilla and cinnamon. The body of this pastry stout what left me wanting. Bit syrupy but overall a good beer

The vanilla is slightly off putting - it grew on me over time, but not something I need again.

Really tastes like king cake, without the risk of choking on the baby.

Lots of cinnamon, but mostly tastes like root beer. Overly carbonated and coffee and vanilla flavors are too muted.

All flavors advertised are spoken for in good amount. Cinnamon might be a bit too strong

Strong cinnamon right of the bat with a mellow vanilla on the tongue. Almost has that barrel aged taste. I like mine with a little more viscosity but not a bad flavor at all

Pretty cream-cheesey. Definitely fits the “pastry stout” moniker.

The good news is that it tastes exactly as described. The bad news is cream cheese in beer is gross.

I’ve never had King Cake… what have done, is pour ounces of dark chocolate into what was already a hot chocolate. This is that. With.. you know… beer.

Too sweet, syrupy, without a bitter or boozy bite to balance it out. Aroma of cinnamon and chocolate is nice.

Super sweet and smooth. The nose is akin to whiffing the icing on a freshly baked cake. And yes, you can taste the cream cheese a bit. Cinnamon is rightly a little mellow.

The first thing that hits you is the syrup-ish tast and texture, but the vanilla and cinnamon quickly settle in for a nice calm, smooth sweet touch; a low biter after taste lingers after. If you're a person who loves sweets to be a little stronger than usual then I believe this one would fit better.

A very, very crushable stout. It’s smells just like a bakery. It tastes just like a delicious, rich, flaky pastry. It’s just the right amount of bitterness to know it’s a stout, but enough sweetness to taste like a pastry. The only negative is that it’s not 100% like a King Cake, but it is very, very close.
