A Note on This Beer
Today’s Sour Ale tastes like biting into a fresh-picked plum from your own backyard tree. It’s a stone fruit explosion!
The Rare Barrel harvested all that juicy flavor from 4,000 pounds of elephant heart plums, sourced from California orchards. They stuffed big ol’ helpings of the fruit into 10 oak barrels to create this small-batch brew.
When we asked the brewers why they chose this type of plum, they raved about its rich juice flavor, floral notes, and light acidity.
The result is Lotsa Heart ‘20 — or, what The Rare Barrel calls, “the juiciest plum beer we’ve ever made.”
To really lock-in the fruit’s juicy-earthy complexity, the brewers added the plums (flesh and pits included) to oak barrels with the base beer. When they bottled it up four months later, the brew underwent natural conditioning for more rounded flavor and light carbonation.
Bring this tart and jammy luxury to your next backyard get-together, and wow the host. It’s just the thing to kick off the summer!
