About This Beer

This beer is the second collaboration between Anchorage’s Gabe Fletcher and master craftsman Mareko Maumasi, in a series they’re calling Bladesmith. They forged an Imperial IPA swirling with so many rippling flavors that it could only be called Maelstrom.

The friends fermented the brew with thiol-boosting yeast and Phantasm powder, creating a brew that drips with tropical juice. Then they double dry-hopped it with Phantasm, Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, and Mosaic to add complex waves of citrus, sweet fruit, and white wine nuances.

Tasting Notes

Grapefruit aromas course over passion fruit and melon in the sip. Tangy green grape tones run through rapids of papaya and lychee. Smooth and light on the palate, with an approachable 6.4% ABV, just tasting it will put you in a flow state.

amazing nose, juice bomb on palate, bit of funky on finish. ABC still mixing it up in the IPA game.

4.11/5 look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25 Poured from a 16 ounce can into a tulip glass. Look- Pale straw, sudsy white head, moderately hazy, no visible particulate, average head retention and lacing. Smell- White grape, floral, melon, between weak to medium strength of scent. Taste- Melon, pear, clementine, medium strength of flavor. Feel- Medium body, moderately creamy, soft, mildly prickly, average carbonation, mildly mouth watering finish. Overall- Look was a nice pale straw with a medium amount of haziness. Bouquet had good scents, but it was a bit weak in strength. The flavors were interesting and enjoyable with a medium strength. The body was more substantial than I thought it would be with an appealing soft and creamy feel. Overall this beer was an enjoyable experience with an interesting flavor profile.

Not at all an IPA fan, however being a wine drinker I was intrigued by the use of Phantasm Powder. I absolutely love Phantasm IPAs. They have subtle white wine taste rather than concentrated pine-sol.

BTHO OSU! 🏈 edition. Rare hops, phantasm powder and all the sweet, juicy hop nectar. Anchorage just never disappoints. Sweet white grape, melon? Berry? It’s good.
