A Note on This Beer
First off, I’d like to congratulate Fair Isle on winning Sip Magazine’s Top “Platinum” honor in the Saison/Farmhouse category at this year’s Best of the Northwest competition!
For a brand new brewery that opened just before the constraints of social distancing hit, this is quite the feat! Not only that, they also broke some serious ground as Seattle’s first 100% Wild Ale brewery.
Get a load of what they just crafted! Maud is a kvass-inspired Saison brewed with 350 lbs of sprouted rye bread from the Seattle bakery, Sea Wolf! If you’ve eaten at any of the top restaurants in the Emerald City, there’s a good chance you’ve tried their bread. They are one of the most highly-regarded bakeries in the region.
The bread that went into this brew was a hearty, dense loaf, loaded with seeds and sprouted rye berries, coarse rye flour, pepitas, sunflower seeds, and salt.
Add all of that wholesome flavor to the funked out, wild Saison base, and you get the depth and complexity of a brew worthy of stealing the spotlight on a decked-out Thanksgiving dinner table — or any fancy meal, really!
