A Note on This Beer

At long last, Anchorage’s brand new, barrel-aged Sour Ale is HERE! Although, I use the term “brand new” loosely… it may have just been released, but the brew itself is actually a few years old!

To craft May the Wild Prevail, Gabe Fletcher and his world-class crew aged their Sour Ale base in French Oak barrels for a full 27 months.

Then, they finished it on heaps of tangy pineapple and plush passion fruit for a tickling, tart interplay between bright, tropical juice and resoundingly complex woody notes from the barrels.

A generous dry-hopping of Strata lends sweet and fruity flavors that complement the lip-puckering Sour base with layers of luscious strawberry, ripe grapefruit and dank, earthy undertones.

If you want to make waves of jealousy amongst your friends, we recommend you grab this “new” barrel-aged Sour brew you won’t otherwise find outside of Alaska!

Anchorage is one of Thrillist’s Best Breweries in America!

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. Anchorage Brewing Company is certified independent by the Brewers Association

not the worst I’ve had but too dry or oaky for me, I can’t tell which it is.

May the wild prevail is a perfect name for this sour. Aged for 27 months it tastes like the pineapple and passion fruit embraced being aged and came out of it transforming this dry beverage into a super balanced fruit dream. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys anchorage and beer in general for that fact.

Danky passion fruit with a nice pineapple blend. Balanced grapefruity pungentness and sour. Great sour!

Funky goodness in a glass! Every drop is lightly coated with tight grained oak notes. The pineapple is a great supporting cast, but the main star is the passion fruit. Cold and crisp in a glass is the traditional expectation, but let it warm up just a bit. It becomes a little more aromatic, and each profile increases in intensity.

May the Wild Prevail ~ Beautifully crafted wild ale (as expected, as per usual) vinous French oak, tropical pineapple and passion fruit and the perfect complement of Strata hops. Truly exceptional.

Dank and definitely pineapple. Not my favorite offering from Anchorage. Almost like they were trying too hard to make a perfect sour and weren’t quite sure what they wanted the end result to be.

The Brett, the brut, the sour, the oak. I don’t know, on paper it sounds fantastic, but I feel like it needed an anchor to bring all those blasts of flavor together. There was no real coalescence.
