A Note on This Beer
When I was a kid, my buddies and I loved making caramel apples. We’d start with crisp, tart Granny Smiths, dip them in gooey caramel, then roll ‘em in crushed peanuts, chocolate chips, or whatever tasty toppings struck our fancy!
And, each sweet n' sour sip of My Carmapple Romance whisks my imagination back to those carefree times!
The creative team at Washington’s Sig Brewing — whom, as you might’ve guessed, is made up of quite a few former-emo kids — developed this nostalgic Sour after voting on ten different new beer ideas. Naturally, the memories of black-dyed hair, tight jeans, and eyeliner won.
To make My Carmapple Romance, the brewers conditioned the beer on tons of tangy apples. Then, to get the caramel flavor, they caramelized a bit of apple concentrate in a small kettle and infused the sugars into the batch after primary fermentation.
It tastes just like biting into a lip-smacking caramel apple, or licking one of those caramel apple lollipops kids get on Halloween. It even pours a playful shade of kelly green!
You don’t have to be a kid — emo or otherwise — to enjoy the creative candy flavors in this crushable brew. But, being young at heart? That definitely helps.
