A Note on This Beer

At my house, Sunday morning brunch is an institution, especially in the fall. With the game on in the background, I’ll whip up a pan of fluffy pancakes, turn on the coffee pot, and slowly ease into the day with a sense of blissful satisfaction.

If I’m feeling extra fancy, I’ll top my pancakes with caramelized pecans before drizzling them with maple syrup.

I get that same blissful experience from every sip of today’s Oak-Aged Maple Coffee Pecan Porter Reserve (Batch 2) from 903. Its dark, velvety body envelops my tongue in flavors of freshly brewed, bold roast coffee, caramelly maple syrup, and savory pecans.

While it starts out as sweet as my team scoring a game-winning touchdown, it finishes as pleasantly dry as a crisp November morning. Each taste is reminiscent of washing down my favorite pecan pancakes with a sip of Starbucks cold brew.

And with it’s belly-warming 12.7% ABV, this Porter was clearly made for lazy Sundays.

It’s easy to agree with @Seth F. who says, “This is everything that I love about breakfast in a Porter. Maple, waffles...and coffee. I’m in love.”

So, go ahead — hit the snooze button, turn on NFL Red Zone, and crack open a can of this boozy beer-lover’s breakfast. Right now, you’ve got nothing to do but chill.

Tons of nutty coffee flavor. The barrel aging adds depth and not a lot of heat. It drinks very smooth for a big beer.

Probably because I'm not a pecan fan so don't held back if you like them

So it’s obvious from the picture that it pours pretty dark with a nice foam head to it. The upfront nose is most definitely maple but while pulling back it smelled almost like a tad bit of “soy sauce.” When the beer first hits the taste buds you immediately get the coffee which is rather forward, but all of a sudden the nuttiness of the pecan is not far behind. The finish becomes this syrupy maple(y) almost pancake quality to it. Overall a very tasty potter that would paid with a nice rack of BBQ RIBS!!!

Really interesting beer. Distinct spice profile that I can't tell whether it comes from the wood, the maple, or the pecan. Solid offering that stands out as unique

This is the perfect beer for brunch! I've had pecan porters before, but they were no where near this great! Spicy and complex, a perfect way to warm up on a cold morning. I drank it Christmas morning, hope I can make it a tradition!

a low carbonation level feel, followed by a mid bitterness flavor of coffee, maple, whereas the pecan seems to be drowned out of the taste of the beer or possibly blended too well with the maple flavor. With a nice mid alcohol level feel in the end. Love it. 8/10 beer for me.

AMAZING example of a porter! Coffee, maple and pecan all come through nicely. Didn't taste overly boozy despite the 12.7% ABV. Light texture, clean mouth feel, mild dry finish, easy drinking. Does 903 EVER make a mistake?

Tan head, cola appearance, slightly sweet toasted pecan aroma, bold coffee taste with a hint of vanilla, creamy mouthfeel, and a subtle alcohol burn in the finish.

gives a blast of maple upfront. Turns to roast and coffee throughout. Maple does linger after the sip. ABV is mostly hidden but it’s pretty sweet overall. Oak is hidden. Rides the cloying line.

903 has not yet made a beer I wouldn’t drink. Typically that’s in the gose, fruited ale, and Berliner weisse realm but this porter is proof they can do other styles. Was one of my first experiences with 903 and it’s still a found memory

Tip: Let this amazing beer sit out in a room temperature glass for 5 minutes untouched, let the flavors expand. The balance of this beer is damn near perfect as each ingredient balances each other out, the boldness off the coffee comes together with the pecans in almost earthy element but from a family baking day. The maple on the back end adds a sugar to your coffee element which is delightful. I wish I bought more when available, even my non beer friends enjoyed this.

This is a bit intense, but amazing if that is what you are in the mood for. Personally there are times I'd just prefer to drink my dessert and this fits well into that category. Very thick and rich like pecan pie strong coffee flavor.

Some maple beers are good. Some have weird off flavors. This is one that has weird off flavors.

Pecan is the name of the game. From the aroma to flavor, if you're not into pecans, then pass this one by. It's a little dry at the finish, but that's typical for a porter.

This is a spectacular porter. The barrel aged flavor mixed prefect with the coffee and pecan, followed up with the solid maple after taste. Really great beer, wish I got more. Cheers

Nice, on the dry side for a pastry porter. More coffee than maple or pecan. Second can has more pecan and maple, less coffee. Quite tasty.
