About This Beer

This delicate blurring of wine and Stout comes from Collective Arts all the way in Ontario, Canada! It’s part of their highly sought after, annual Origin of Darkness Stout series.

To craft it, the Canadian crew teamed up with world-famous Garage Project who added New Zealand pinot noir skins to the brew for a little Kiwi flair. Then the pair aged the brew in neutral oak to mimic traditional wine conditioning.

Then, they transferred the brew to tawny port barrels for distinctive dark fruit and nut notes. Finally, they added New Zealand cacao nibs and South Pacific vanilla beans for rich, bright accents.

Tasting Notes

Intricate layers of lush red wine and dark chocolate accentuate nuances of cocoa-coated raisins and spiced vanilla until a tannic finish. Every silky sip simultaneously satisfies dessert wine cravings and deep, indulgent dark brew impulses!

Great stout, but the Pinot noir didn’t make as much of an appearance as I thought. Smooth, oak forward cacao and vanilla with light acidity

glad it came with two cans. didn’t dig it so much on first glance and gave it 3.5, feeling that it was muddled. second glance, I was in a better place to appreciate it. the wine notes were still a bit hard to reconcile with the really strong vanilla-oak character underneath. I got a hint of smokiness specifically on the nose. the biggest change was tuning in to the super-luxurious creamy mouth feel. this was an amazingly smooth stout that was a pleasure to drink.

Very oaky and not so much of the wine flavor. Still very good!

I really respect the experimentation and desire to push the norm, but the wine side of things was just too strong for me here.
