About This Beer
In an effort to create a contrast to the NEIPA, Wayfinder Beer ended up creating an entirely new IPA style! The brewers used “bucketloads” of new and old-school hops for an abundance of fruit and pine notes. But the real kicker? Forgoing the malty American Ale yeast used for most IPAs, Wayfinder went with Lager yeast. And instead of fermenting it cold as is tradition with Lagers — hence the name “Cold IPA” — the brewers opted for warmer temperatures to keep fruity esters low.
This created a crystal-clear canvas for the hops to shine through even more intensely! Or as the brewery describes, a brew with “a strong punch of aromatic hop intensity and high bitterness, but finishes crisp and clean.”
Tasting Notes
Notes of tropical fruit and pine hit the palate upfront, leaning heavily on citrus, cantaloupe, and dewey conifer. The finish is stunningly crisp and clean, setting the Cold IPA apart from other hopbombs.
