A Note on This Beer
“pFriem Family Brewers in Hood River, Oregon has produced some of the finest beers our judges have ever had the privilege to imbibe. As such, pFriem can be called the best brewery in the world.” –The Beer Connoisseur, in 2020
Today’s Oud Bruin Kriek (2020) offers a true taste of the brewing legends’ mastery.
Though bottled up just last year, the brewers actually dedicated over three years to this robust Belgian-inspired Ale. They barrel-aged it for most of that time — first in French Oak Foudres (originally used for aging Bordeaux in France) for two years, followed by another 12 months in Willamette Valley Pinot Noir barrels.
Then, last spring, the pFriem team awoke the beer from its long barrel nap and conditioned it on 4 lbs per gallon of three different ripe Oregon cherry varieties!
The juicy berries coincide harmoniously with the brew’s tiramisu, fig, and leathery oak notes. A final fermentation on champagne yeast makes for elegant whispers of dry, woody vanilla and light earthiness on each cherry pie-like finish.
A beautiful brew like this one doesn’t come around often. Ready to experience the ‘best brewery in the world’ for yourself?
*Oud Bruin Kriek means “old world cherry” in Flemish, but the brewers say, “Out here, it means ‘Pull up a chair and stay a while.’”
