A Note on This Beer

My family got a kitten this week, and it’s cute as the dickens. But I have to admit, my attention isn’t on the critter. I’m focused on a brand-new, limited batch, juicy IPA from Gigantic Brewing and Block 15.

Hey, I like kittens as much as the next guy, but these are two of Oregon’s finest breweries here!

Eater calls the multi-GABF medalists at Gigantic an Essential Brewery and “a legend in Portland beer.” Block 15, meanwhile, just nabbed another Great American Beer Festival medal to add to their impressive awards stack!

Seriously, if two top-bred show cats got together to create a cashmere-soft super kitten that could do tricks and pose on cue, it MIGHT be on par with this beer’s pedigree.

And let me tell you, the brewers positively pummeled Participatory Aces with Talus, Citra, Galaxy, and Cascade Hops. Each sip explodes with supremely lush flavors of ruby red grapefruit, bursting orange, drippy peach, and resinous pine!

It’s soft and pillowy, too, and so drinkable, with just a whisper of its 7.9% ABV. Charlie the kitten certainly doesn’t have that kind of dank, fruity superpower. He’s great, but my excitement is all on this covetous juicebomb right now.

Besides, Charlie is going to be around for a long time. I’ll be surprised if Participatory Aces IPA lasts the week!

Has an odd initial taste, I don’t know if it’s from the Hops. not what I would normally consider a hazy IPA

Possible oxidation or oxidized hops. Smelled like a tootsie pop and the flavor matched. Wouldn't recommend

Have you ever heard of apricot pie? Apricot, plum, or prune jam; Chewy... Powerful fruit smell, like walking through a wild orchard just past peak season, when all the syrupy fruit has fallen to earth, and the pulp is so rich the bouquet almost overwhelms as it envelopes the senses in a deep, fermented haze.

Cloudy orange pour with massive aromas orange, mango, banana and spent coffee grounds. Taste starts off tropical but is interrupted by bitter orange and pine resin. Aftertaste is combo of melon rind and grapefruit pith. Pillow mouthfeel.
