About This Beer

When it comes to decadent summertime desserts, I like to look south of the border for a mouthful of tres leches cake. It’s rich, yet light. Decadent, but somehow refreshing. The only way this stuff could taste better on a warm summer night is if it were also a beer.

Thanks to the folks at New Image, now it is!

The Colorado crew started with their Pint Cake base, creating beautifully balanced, tangy-sweet Ale. Then they added rich Tahitian Vanilla, heavy cream, and a touch of lactose for a soft, smooth body, before finishing things off with plenty of real strawberries!

Tasting Notes

Just like the cake that inspired it, this stuff makes a stellar dessert on a warm summer night, with lush strawberry flavors, a rich, creamy mouthfeel, and a finish that is shockingly refreshing for such a full-bodied brew. It really does taste like a bite of Tres Leches cake from a Mexico City bakery.

There’s a sour start with a nice warm vanilla finish at the end . Really enjoyed!

Sadly not sure that the sour flavor of the beer and the super sweet vanilla flavor of tres leches cake pairs well. The tres leches flavor is very much like condensed milk which would be good with a less sour beer, but it’s so tart that the 2 flavors don’t taste great together. There’s a weird acidic after taste that I’m not a fan of. Was sad that this one didn’t work out! I love super tart sours, but for this flavor it just would have been better if it was less so.

Wonderfully surprising sour! The vanilla base has a tart, creamy finish that balances sweet and sour. It doesn’t necessarily taste like like Tres Leches, but I truly enjoyed it nonetheless.

The fresh tart strawberry flavor lingers for SO long, with an added dose of that sweet vanilla cake flavor at the top of every sip. Creamy mouth feel without any added thickness, it’s crazy!! So so good and super unique!

Definitely leads with the fruit, as it warmed you get more of the cake cream, but fruit leading.

Not bad beer. It’s not too sour or sweet, just a hint of vanilla and strawberry flavor. it’s really nice summer beer to drink and to enjoy.

The tartness of the base beer doesn’t necessarily call to mind the creamy and moist characteristics of a tres leches cake, but the freshness of the strawberry and light sweetness of vanilla combine to make a delicious and refreshing sipper nonetheless.
