Ever since my sister went on vacation to Cabo, she’s been trying to get me to drink straight poison. Or, as she calls it, prickly pear margaritas.

Thing is, I’ve been avoiding those ever since I woke up on Seis de Mayo with a headache and the head of a horse piñata bleeding candy into my bed.

So when sis called me and said, “Try this” and “prickly pear” in the same sentence, I almost stopped listening — until I heard “beer” and “GABF Gold-Winning Brewery.”

I happened to be in Denver when she called, so I headed over to Copper Kettle’s taproom for a taste of Prickly Pear Gose! Just one sip, and I was floored by the sweet tangy goodness of prickly pear cactus in a smooth and crushable 4.5% ABV brew. No headache or decapitated piñata horse for me!

Turns out the ace brewers at Copper Kettle infused this Sour with actual prickly pear cactus and real juice! I got a small stash right then and there, because this is a summer refresher worth stocking up on for when you hear the ominous sound of the margarita blender firing up.

Pour Prickly Pear Gose into a glass to allow even more fruity flavors to open up before sipping. Green pear and cardamom spice aromas greet you before your palate is washed in sweet watermelon, tart raspberry and Granny Smith apple. Hints of lemon and tangy lime step in on the finish.

Prickly Pear Gose is so flavorful and easygoing, my sister doesn’t even urge me to drink its tequila cocktail counterpart anymore. Take that, margaritas!
