A Note on This Beer
Chad and Colleen Kuehl chose the name Wander Brewing for three key reasons:
- They’re longtime travelers who had lived (and sampled beer from) all over the U.S. before helping spur the thriving craft scene in Bellingham, Washington in 2014.
- It’s short and straightforward — these skilled brewers let their craft do the talking instead of relying on gimmicks and frills.
- They don’t limit themselves to only a few styles. They ‘wander’ all over the beer map in pursuit of new flavors!
Today’s Raspberry Champagne Toast Berliner Weisse makes for an excellent introduction to Wander’s prowess. Just look at how they craft it!
The brewers start with an initial 9-month fermentation and conditioning in an American oak foeder, one that they only ever use for their coveted Champagne Toast series. The resulting tart and slightly funky Berliner-style Weisse then undergoes a secondary fermentation on a whopping 700 lbs of locally grown raspberries.
The final brew bubbles brightly with tart and jammy flavor! It finishes crisply, with a final whisper of berry pucker. Craft fan @Jesse W. praises its deep crimson depths as “one of the best beers.”
Might as well pour this one into some stemware. You’re going to want to raise a toast to Wander Brewing right after the very first sip.
