A Note on This Beer
With multiple Gold Medal wins at the Washington Beer Awards and Sip Magazine’s Best of the Northwest Awards, Varietal Beer Co. is not just a local Washington favorite. They’re a regional powerhouse!
And, they’re proving their claim to the regional throne once again by crafting today’s wine barrel-aged Wild Ale with insane amounts of a famous Washington crop: juicy red raspberries.
Yup, the brewers crammed Raspberry Sabbath with over 400 lbs of whole raspberries per batch!
You know those little plastic boxes of raspberries you can buy fresh in the produce aisle at the store? Imagine stuffing 5 of those raspberry boxes into a one-gallon jug of tart lemonade — that’s the taste found in each sip of Raspberry Sabbath.
But, because the brewers started with a blend of Wild Ales aged for 2 years in wine barrels, the beer takes on additional complexities of woody spice and oaky vanilla. Every juicy drop is a swirl of puckering acidity and tannic berry brightness. Then comes an exciting barnyard funk to top off the dry finish.
One sip of Raspberry Sabbath is all it takes to see that we weren’t razzing your berries about Varietal’s high prowess. But, you’ll have to secure yourself a bottle from our tiny stash first!
*Raspberry Sabbath is refermented in the bottle, so allow 24 hours to chill before opening to prevent gushing
