A Note on This Beer

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when I say “Anchorage Brewing?”

It’s probably a boozed-up, pillowy soft hopbomb like Shape Shift Black or a Barrel-Aged masterpiece like Endless Ending.

But, what if I told you that this 4.04 UT-rated Alaskan powerhouse — named one of the Best Breweries in America by Thrillist — actually got its start crafting traditional, Old World-style sippers?

It’s true!

The brewery’s earliest Untappd entries include everything from crisp and biscuity Pilsners to spiced, citrusy Witbiers and clean, easy-drinking Kolsches.

And when a brewery can craft those difficult, beloved styles just as well as a juicy, pillowy IPA, that’s something to raise a goblet...er, glass too! Which is why I put together this box of not one, not two, but THREE Anchorage brews inspired by the classically crisp and sessionable beers of yesteryear.

Here’s what ya’ get:

Raven Heart Pilsner — 5% ABV — 2x16oz cans

This brand-spankin’ new brew sips like a classic German Pilsner, but with a splash of tropical melon and zesty citrus from a double dry-hopping of Galaxy and Citra Hops.

Big waves of mango and pineapple swirl around a touch of malt and pine and it all finishes crisp, clean, and light as a feather.

Ghosts Belgian-style Witbier — 5.5% ABV — 2x16oz cans

Taking a true-to-style Belgian Witbier base with hand-zested orange peel and coriander sourced from India, Anchorage ups the ante in two ways.

First, they dry-hop with a dose of orange creamsicle-flavored Lotus Hops, imbuing the brew with even more orangey goodness and waves of silky smooth vanilla. Then, they age it for 3 months in Missouri Oak foeders for an additional blast of vanilla character and a hint of oaky spice.

Man is Animal Kolsch — 4.5% ABV — 2x16oz cans

They’re almost 5,000 miles too far from Köln, Germany to legally brew a Kolsch, but Anchorage sure as heck nailed this one.

It’s light, ultra-refreshing, and replete with all the soft maltiness, subtle citrus, and nuanced apricot flavors you’d find brimming from the steins of old Deutschland. And the best part? We’re free to drink it despite the strict European laws, because this is America, dammit.

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. Anchorage Brewing Company is certified independent by the Brewers Association

Confession time - I LOVE everything about Anchorage Brewing. From the can art to the super charged flavors, I’m hooked. What a great tasting Pilsner. DDH’ing with Citra and Galaxy hops gives it a lot of character. I daresay a MASSIVELY crushable beer.
