A Note on This Beer

Almost all beer geeks of a certain age remember Pete Slosberg and his legendary Pete’s Wicked Ale.

It’s the original American Brown Ale that set the standard for all Brown Ales after it. For many of us, it was THE beer back in the day — the one you’d bring to your college buddy’s house party, or the beer you’d nervously sip during awkward first dates.

Not ringing any bells? That’s probably because Pete’s brew has long since disappeared from store shelves. Thanks to Hoppin’ Frog Brewery, now you have a chance to taste that beloved beer once again!

These masters of all things dark and boozy teamed up with Pete Slosberg himself to create Re-Re-Pete 3X — a revival of one of America’s favorite Brown Ales.

It uses the same Brewers Gold Hops and the same smooth, specialty malts. Except, unlike Pete’s, this Imperial Brown Ale is wicked boozy, rocking your world with a mind-buzzing 15.6% ABV!

Don’t let that scare you — you’ll hardly notice the big ABV behind Re-Re-Pete’s sticky waves of caramel, butterscotch, and spiced vanilla, tinged with subtle notes of resinous hops.

Take a sip, and you might feel like you’ve stepped through a time machine back to 1995. If you never got to try the original Pete’s, now you can grab a stash of this stuff and discover the flavors that delighted your craft beer forefathers!

Hoppin’ Frog’s boozy brews have earned oodles of GABF, International Beer Fest, and World Beer Cup awards!

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. Hoppin' Frog Brewery is certified independent by the Brewers Association

Not too shabby, high ABV. Has an Arrogant Bastard sort of bitterness to it which makes the small can a good choice

I didn’t love this, I have to say. So sweet. I expected the flavor to be much more complex

I bought a few really liked them, and would buy it again for myself, but it was apparently too sweet for the folks I shared it with.

I haven't had too many brown ales, but being on the high abv, this was drinkable and smooth.

boozy, old school heavy handed execution of a beer. this reminds of stone old guardian or a double Bigfoot.

drinks like a massive American barleywine with a gorgeous red hue. Rich & malty meets a bitter kick with an exceptionally long, warming vanillin oak finish. Reminds me of an aged single malt. You sure this isn’t barrel aged?! 🤔

thankfully it was in a small can. very intense dark beer. I got a lot of bitterness but not a ton of booze, surprisingly.

you really get the classic brown maltiness, but I think the booziness shines through a bit too much for my liking. Glad it comes in an 8.4 oz can, because this could kill a man.

Pours with a slightly transparent brown color, a nice thick head which clings to the side of the glass The smell is dominated by chocolate malts, smells a little bit toasty Has a sweet milk chocolatey taste. A little bitter, but smooth and medium bodied. Has a nice bite and warming feeling at the end. It’s like a really smooth shot.

Sweet malty aroma, upfront alcohol taste with classic brown ale and hops notes, and a serious ABV kick in the finish.
