A Note on This Beer
A craft brewery making a Lager is kind of like a trapeze artist working without a net. Make the slightest mistake, and it’s all over. SPLAT!
Luckily, the Maryland Craft Beer Award-winners at Elder Pine are up for the challenge! Though just a few years old, they’ve fine-tuned their Lagering process to ensure a bright, complex, and utterly drinkable brew with a delectably malty finish and just enough hops to awaken the taste buds.
If you think the clear, watery, flavorless macro-brews down at the convenience store represent the style, it’s time to grab a can of Red Sparrows and introduce your palate to a REAL Lager.
To create this true-to-style beer, the brewers used traditional German malts, hops, and yeast. They fermented at low temperatures, then conditioned the beer for a full 3 months at 33 degrees until it had the ultra-smooth, insanely crisp body the style is revered for.
Not many breweries have that kind of patience when it comes to Lagers! But when you pour this brew into a glass, you’ll understand why they took their time.
Aromas of freshly baked bread rise from the tawny pour, beckoning you towards a first sip. On the taste buds, you’ll revel in nutty, malty notes with nuances of caramel and dates. The finish is smoother than silk, with lingering bread crust flavors that are almost slightly toasty.
It’s not often you get to sip a brew that’s so refreshing while also being so flavorful. But we only have 20 cases of this smooth sipper to go around, so you’d better grab yours quick.
This beer is too new for ratings!
