A Note on This Beer

One of the best parts about living in the PNW are all the wild blackberries that voraciously grow EVERYWHERE. Come late summer, these juicy little buddies pop up on almost every conceivable surface, begging you to have a taste of all their vine ripened bounty.

The only problem is, harvesting blackberries is a Herculean task — my arms get tangled in vines, bees angrily buzz, and the best berries get nabbed by the birds.

Luckily, I’ve finally discovered an easier, tastier way to get my blackberry fix. I just grab myself a couple cans of Black Project’s blackberry Sour, Rivet Quick! It’s all that juicy berry flavor I crave, minus the headache and thorns.

Black Project uses insane amounts of blackberries on top of a delicious blend of their amazing Sour beer base. Then, the whole batch gets refermented with local cultures for a mouth-puckering, bright berry explosion of succulent, real-fruit flavor. Boy, it’s a jammer!

Needless to say, I think my days of berry picking are behind me. Rivet Quick makes it all too easy to get the sweet taste of summer that I crave. Besides, the GABF award-winning brewers at Black Project can craft a Wild Ale that’s better than any blackberry treat that I could make!

Atomic tartness. Like a plate of authentic thai chili spiced food, it's a little overwhelming at first; you can't taste anything but the heat. But, if you stand your ground, sit with the feeling for a little, the next few bites will unleash the intensely pleasurable cornucopia of flavors enhanced and bolstered by the bird eyed pepper's scarlet kiss. This sour beer knows exactly who it is, and confidently asserts its profound pucker power, right from the word "go". The blackberry flavor is pure and authentic. It's not afraid to be bold, but it backs it up with a fantastic fruity body. It nails the balance of sour, sweet, and tart, it just turns it up a little more than most sours.

Pucker up, buttercup. This one will make sour patch kids seems like child's play. Crisp and light, it is pretty okay. Not my favorite sour, but fun to try!

Flavor is of tart citrus and berry, maybe some green apple and sour grape, and a mild cracker malt undertone. Very refreshing, pretty tart, and generally easy drinking. The berry flavor is very fresh and natural. Pretty top notch kettle sour. I have to be in the right mood for beers this tart, but the quality isn't in dispute.

As expected, this was very tart. Dry and crisp. The natural blackberry has a very nice flavor and rounds off the finish.

Light bodied and tartness outweighs the blackberry fruit. Definitely not a fruit smoothie. Puckeringly refreshing.

So I know this is a sour, but it's so sour that any Blackberry flavor gets completely lost. Very light and very tart. Definitely not a jammer by any means. Tastes like a concentrated kettle sour base. Reminds me of 90's super sour candy like Warheads, Crybabys and Toxic Waste. You could totally rebrand this as any of the above and you'd get 5 stars all day long.

Got this in a pack and were intrigued by the spontaneous idea. Most beers we have had are from across the pond and have some deep fruity and berry notes. This one not as much. Look: poured this into an imperial pint glass. Berry colored (deep pink to start then light red). Light finger sized head that dissipated quickly. No lacing. Smell: berry, sour, a little funky (almost farmhouse like) notes Taste: sour and acidic on the front, berry in the middle, deep sour and funky on the trailing end, funk and berry on the trailing end, then it just dies... a little crisp like on the end because it fades and leaves nothing Feel: thin, sour, heavy carbonation (almost like a wine cooler) Overall its kind of meh... I will say that we are not much of a farmhouse kinda people, but the smell and taste closely match. If there were more berry to counter the acidic sour then this might be OK. I do love the experimentation with wild yeast and the sense of science + play the brewery does. Cheers!
