A Note on This Beer
Ever heard of royal jelly? It’s a kind of super honey that bees feed their babies to make them grow ridiculously fast. When they need to make a new queen, they feed them extra royal jelly.
Today, I feel like I’ve found the craft equivalent with Royal Bee Honey Cream Double IPA from Drekker Brewing.
To be crystal clear, I am NOT suggesting that you feed this 8% ABV brew to your babies. That is a really bad idea. I’m just saying that when I drink it, I feel like royalty.
Maybe it’s the velvet-soft body from plenty of oats and spelt in the mash, or the creamy finish from a touch of lactose. Or maybe, it’s the tropical flavors of tangy tangerine and dank melon from a whole hive’s worth of Magnum, Hallertau Blanc, Ekuanot, and Mosaic Hops.
But, I think it’s really because the brewers added ‘crazy amounts’ of local honey. It gives the brew a lingering sweetness on the finish that could get any craft fan buzzing!
Will Royal Bee turn you into an actual monarch? Probably not. But, it will make you feel like you totally rule, even if your throne is actually just a lawn chair.
Royal Bee Earned a Medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championships in the Honey Beer Category!
