About This Beer

To celebrate the 400th batch of their beloved B.O.R.I.S. the Crusher, the Hoppin’ Frog crew crafted this bold Imperial Rye Oatmeal Stout and it’s well worth toasting — both with and to!

They used hefty additions of sweet malted rye AND spicy unmalted rye to create flavorful depths in this silky smooth, 9.4% ABV Stout.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, it’s all about boldly malty aromas, with hints of freshly-brewed mocha and drizzles of molasses. Take a sip, and the rich, full mouthfeel carries nuances of spiced dark cocoa and a subtle hint of earthy hops. Slightly peppery rye notes punctuate a long, fudgy finish that lingers on the palate long after the last drop of beer is gone.

I'm a sucker for imperial rye stouts, and this had a lot of rye flavor. Made me wish I had a pastrami sandwich to go with it.

The rye is subtle but enough to give some complexity to a very smooth oatmeal stout that has a bit chocolate and malt flavors. Near perfect beer IMO.

Chocolate and roasted malt in the aroma. Taste follows aroma with rye spiciness throughout as well. Very enjoyable mild chocolate linger.
