A Note on This Beer
There are two legendary "skull splitters" out there: the man and the morning after.
"Skull Splitter" the man was Thorfinn Hauskaluif, 10th century earl of the Scottish Orkney Islands. Earl Hauskaluif was a Viking who knew how to wield a battle axe. We'll let you guess how he earned his nickname.
The morning after "skull splitter" is almost as frightening and has a history at least as long: the hangover.
Today we introduce a new legend. Skull Splitter Scotch Ale from Orkney Brewery in Scotland. Also known as Wee Heavy, this beer has prominent notes of fig, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger that bring warmth to damp Scots mucking about in the Highlands.
Although the Skull Splitter Scotch Ale has consistently won awards over the past twenty years, some claim the beer's name is too aggressive, and want to pull it from the market. Get yours while you still can.
Whether you imbibe like a Viking or a Scott, consider yourself warned if you wake up in bed with either "skull splitter." If its Earl Hauskaluif, give us a call, we'd like to buy him a cold one.
